Nintendo Switch with OLED Screen Announced Officially, Features OLED Display, Bigger Stand

Nintendo has finally unveiled the new version of its Switch console which features an OLED display. This model had been rumored for quite a while now and yesterday, Nintendo made the announcement on its Twitter.

The Nintendo Switch OLED is the upgraded version of the previous Switch and features a larger, 7-inch OLED display, which is a big upgraded compared to the previous model’s 6.2-Inch LCD display. However, both models feature the same 1280×720 resolution.

Not only that, but the new Switch model also features increased storage, improved speakers, and a better overall design. The Nintendo Switch OLED model features a redesigned kickstand at the back. Unlike the small strip on the standard model, the OLED model features a wide flap that is sturdier and can be adjusted to multiple positions.

Just like the old Nintendo Switch, the Switch OLED can be slotted into a dock for playing on a TV at home, or taken out and played as a handheld console. The TV dock will also have a wired LAN port, an important addition for those who like to play competitively online. The new dock is sold separately and should be compatible with the standard model as well.

Another change that comes with the Switch OLED is enhanced audio in handheld mode. The audio from the bottom-firing stereo speakers is now enhanced over the standard model. Coming to the internal specifications, nothing major has changed.

The Nintendo Switch OLED is powered by the same Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC that powers the previous version of Switch. However, the internal storage has increased to 64 GB, up from 32 GB, meaning you will now have twice the space to store your games and media.

The Nintendo Switch OLED model will be available starting October 8 for $350. It comes in the standard Neon Red/Neon Blue combo as well as a unique White set. It will be available alongside the Switch ($300) and Switch Lite ($200) models.
